The cuvette inscription, Bought of Tiffany & Co New York, places the present watch within the flourishing transtlantic market for fine European timepieces in nineteenth-century America. Founded in 1837, Tiffany & Co. had, by the mid-century, established itself among New York’s foremost retailers of luxury watches and jewellery, supplying an affluent clientele with imported Swiss and continental productions of the highest quality. In this context, the association with Jules Jürgensen is entirely consistent, uniting one of the great names of Scandinavian horology with one of America’s most prestigious luxury houses.
