Combining minute repeating, with a rare three-hammer carillon striking system, the present watch belongs to the most ambitious category of portable striking timepieces produced during the golden age of Swiss complicated watchmaking. Manufactured in small numbers by specialised Swiss workshops for an elite clientele, such watches required exceptional technical skill in construction, regulation and acoustic adjustment. The present example, with its substantial gold hunting case, enamel dial and highly elaborate movement, stands as an important and impressive carillon sonnerie pocket watch of the early twentieth century.

A highly complicated 18k gold hunting-cased minute repeating carillon pocket watch with petite and grande sonnerie

Case: round hinged, hunting case type, corrector on the edge of the dial to adjust the function "Sonnerie" and "Silence", a small corrector as well to adjust time and minutes and repeating slide to the band

Dial: white enamel with Arabic numerals, uter 24-hour chapter ring and subsidiary seconds at 6, Breguet style hands

Movement: highly complicated nickel-finished movement jewelled throughout, fitted with lever escapement and cut bimetallic compensation balance, incorporating grande sonnerie and petite sonnerie striking functions, minute repeating mechanism and carillon strike on three hammers and gongs
